For 35 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio has provided a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill children. Nationwide Children’s Hospital was building a new 12-story main building. This meant Ronald McDonald House also needed to expand to accommodate the increased need for their services. Plans for expansion included adding 40 rooms, which would more than doubled their capacity. The estimated cost for the entire project was $6.4 million. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio selected Cramer & Associates in 2011 to conduct a feasibility study to test a goal range of $4.5 to $6.4 million.
After completing 41 staff and community interviews, Cramer & Associates recommended moving forward with a $6 million campaign. Recognizing the highly capable and committed staff led by a great executive director, Cramer & Associates focused on highlighting the executive director’s ability to engage and drive support. Volunteer leaders had large networks, but limited availability. The feasibility study provided a detailed roadmap to utilize Ronald McDonald House’s leadership team and volunteers to open more doors in the community.
The campaign was an overwhelming success. RMHC Central Ohio raised $6.4 million, meeting the goal we originally tested in the feasibility study. This allowed them to construct 40 additional rooms, re-imagine their facilities, add a rooftop space, and build individual houses to host families. Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio remains the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world, and an unparalleled place for children and families in need of comfort and stability during trying times.
