Lindy Infante grew up in poverty with the odds stacked against him, until he discovered his athletic talents. Sports gave him a sense of direction and the opportunity he needed to change his life. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Florida. After an illustrious college career he went on to coach in the NFL. As a coach he took players under his wing and gave them guidance.
After his passing in 2015, his family established the Lindy Infante Foundation to honor him and his passion for sports. The Foundation’s mission is to unlock the potential inside every child through increased access to sports participation. In early 2018, our team met with Brad & Stephanie Infante to create a strategy to increase their philanthropic impact.
Over the course of two years, Cramer worked with the Foundation to build awareness about the importance of sports in a child’s life. We initiated creative partnerships with organizations such as Columbus Recreation and Parks, KIPP Columbus, and OSU LiFESports. These new partnerships allowed the Foundation to expand its programming in exciting new directions.
Then we set our sights on enhancing the Foundation’s brand. With our guidance, they launched a new website and reimagined their annual fundraising event. We also recommended a partnership with Aspen Institute’s Project Play. In the fall of 2019, the Aspen Institute announced they would be conducting a State of Play for Central Ohio, with the Lindy Infante Foundation and The Columbus Foundation leading the effort. This report analyzes the state of youth sports in the Central Ohio region and offers recommendations to grow quality access to sports, physical activity, and outdoor recreation for all children, regardless of race, gender, income, or ability.
The Lindy Infante Foundation has increased its footprint throughout the state of Ohio and beyond. Their innovative ideas and strategies level the playing field, ensuring all kids have the chance to play sports. After a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the State of Play for Central Ohio was finalized in 2021. Lindy Infante’s family have cemented his legacy with their dedicated efforts, and Cramer is proud to have played a role.
