Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton

The Challenge.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton (RMHC Dayton) provides community, comfort, and hope to families of seriously ill children. With just 19 rooms, RMHC Dayton was not able to keep up with increased demand. More families than ever were bringing their children to Dayton for innovative medical care, and the modern hospital treatment model was shifting from overnight stays to outpatient procedures. Because of this shift families were staying at the house longer, and the children staying there needed special support as they recovered. The leaders at RMHC Dayton had a vision to build a new house to accommodate 50 families. To gauge community support for their $30 million goal, Cramer & Associates conducted a feasibility study in 2021.

The Strategy.

Examining our feasibility study findings, we recommended dividing the campaign into two phases. Phase One would build the first two floors in their entirety and prepare the structure of the third floor. Floors 1 and 2 would accommodate 21 families.

To ensure success, we took time to find the right honorary campaign chair. With our guidance RMHC Dayton secured a leader who had influence in the community and a personal affinity for the cause. He and his wife were dedicated leaders with a passion for the mission.

The Result.

In the end, the time we took to find the right leaders paid off. Our honorary campaign chairs recruited campaign committee members and graciously hosted a campaign event at their home. Most importantly, they used their connections to secure a $13 million gift from Ohio’s Medicaid Managed Care Organizations. This was the largest gift the organization had ever received. Now they have begun construction a full six months ahead of schedule.

The outpouring of support for Phase One of the campaign has provided RMHC Dayton with the momentum they need to enter a comprehensive campaign that will significantly increase the number of families they serve.
