Katie Schemmel is a values-driven leader passionate about engaging the community in the transformative power of philanthropy. As Vice President of Cramer & Associates, Katie works with nonprofit organizations of all sizes and across a variety of sectors, providing strategic counsel on capital campaigns, feasibility studies, development planning, and major gift fundraising. Since joining the firm in October 2024, she has partnered closely with nonprofit leaders, staff, and volunteers to develop effective fundraising strategies, strengthen donor relationships, and build long-term philanthropic capacity.
Prior to joining Cramer & Associates, Katie led the corporate philanthropy program at Big Lots, where she oversaw the distribution of $4.5 million annually to more than 300 nonprofit organizations and helped raise nearly $12 million annually through cause marketing campaigns. She also managed the company’s volunteerism program, engaging thousands of associates in Columbus and across the country in philanthropic initiatives. Through her work, Katie cultivated relationships with hundreds of nonprofit leaders and developed meaningful partnerships that extended beyond financial support. This experience provides her a unique perspective on corporate philanthropy and allows her to help nonprofit partners better understand the priorities of corporate funders and build strong, mutually beneficial relationships.
A proud Miami University alumni, Katie holds a Bachelor’s in Marketing and a minor in Social Entrepreneurship. In 2023, she earned a Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is devoted to giving back to the central Ohio community, where she was born and raised, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Harmony Project. Katie is also an active volunteer for many local organizations, including Pelotonia and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She was recognized as an honoree of Columbus CEO’s Future 50 Class of 2023, and is a proud graduate of the United Way of Central Ohio’s Project Diversity Pride Leadership program, and is a member of the Leadership Columbus Class of 2027.
