"When traced back to its Greek roots, the word “philanthropy” means “love of mankind.” This is what drives my passion for Cramer’s work — every day, we have the opportunity to engage volunteers, donors, and the community in work that embodies this love.”

Katie Cramer is a values-driven leader passionate about engaging the community in the transformative power of philanthropy. As a key member of the Cramer team, she brings extensive experience in corporate charitable giving, employee engagement, and DEI initiatives. Previously, Katie led the philanthropic efforts for Big Lots, a national discount retailer, distributing $4.5 million annually to 300+ nonprofits and raising nearly $12 million each year through in-store cause marketing campaigns.

During her seven years with Big Lots, Katie reviewed an average of 4,000 funding requests each year, and was responsible for determining which organizations the Foundation would support. Katie worked closely with the Foundation’s charitable partners, including many in the arts and culture sector, to build holistic relationships where the Big Lots team was actively engaged through volunteerism, in-kind contributions, and board service.

Speaking specifically to capital campaigns, Katie represented Big Lots during feasibility studies, site visits, and partner meetings to understand the campaign’s alignment with the Foundation’s focus areas and priorities. She would make determinations on which capital campaign requests the Foundation would consider, and present recommendations to the Foundation’s board of directors for approval.

Katie’s expertise in corporate philanthropy offers a unique perspective for our partners as they engage prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors. Her insight helps clients craft compelling fundraising strategies and navigate corporate giving from an insider’s perspective. Additionally, she is a skilled storyteller, specializing in creating persuasive cases for support and developing effective philanthropic marketing strategies.

A proud Miami University alum, Katie holds a Bachelor’s in Marketing and a minor in Social Entrepreneurship. In 2023, she earned a Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is devoted to giving back to the central Ohio community, where she was born and raised, and serves on the board of directors for the Harmony Project, as well as on the National Life is Why Council for the American Heart Association. Katie is also an active volunteer for many local organizations, including Pelotonia and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She was recognized as an honoree of Columbus CEO’s Future 50 Class of 2023, and is a proud graduate of the United Way of Central Ohio’s Project Diversity Pride Leadership program.
